Daisy, I'd try what Dee said, AND take sugar off the table (ha) for this next month.  Can you use stevia?  I use Stevia Glycerite, by NOW foods, it doesn't have any bitter aftertaste and is very sweet. It's the only stevia I've found that is worth switching to.

Stick with meats, veggies, and healthy fats.  That should help.  Good job quitting the sodas, that should help a lot too.
