Have any of you worked with a personal trainer? If so, what did you think? How about an online trainer/consultant?

I've been reading a blog from a fitness competitor, and she posts interesting, funny and smart stuff, plus she looks amazing. She does online pt that includes a workout plan and meal plan, and a weekly check-in to monitor progress.

Since I work out at home, online support sounds like a good thing, but how do you know if the person is good, or if you pay them and never hear anything? Or if they have so many online clients, you get lost in the shuffle?

Anyway, just wondering if any of you have used any online pt support, and what was your experience?

I used an online coach and she posted wonderful advice and was very encouraging to the group but I didn't get answers when I needed them. I wasn't paying her but I paid for a product and the coaching was a benefit. It was discouraging and like you said I felt lost in the shuffle. However there are many good coaches and personal trainers out there I just wonder too how you know. I do know I feel like I have already had more support here in a few weeks than I did in 2 months with her. Good luck.

Thanks Carrie. It is pretty expensive, think the quote was $135 a month, buy two months, get one free. That is a lot of cash for a state government employee, lol..

So I was wondering about other folks' experiences.  I mainly just want someone to tell me what to eat and when. Maybe I should look more for an online nutrition coach. I just want someone to say, ok today you are going to eat A, B, C.

I used an online diet coach once, and it was a positive experience. Paying the money is kind of a way to lock yourself in to the program, since if you are tempted to slack, you say "well shoot, I spent that cash I should probably follow through" ... whereas even when you know the info yourself, it can be tough to hold yourself accountable.
We tracked weight, measurements, and strength numbers, and had 4-week checkins ...

of course "life happened" and I slacked during the last 1/3rd of the program ...

I was very pleased with the results I got, and still plan on using the material on my own for another run at it.

Thanks for the feedback, Jared. Do you want to share who you used as your online coach?

Ya definitely, thought about plugging him in my first post but anyhoo, I went with Andy Morgan of http://rippedbody.jp/ ... he's this young Brit living in Japan, and he uses Martin Berkhan's LeanGains protocol ... basically intermittent fasting+calorie cycling+macro cycling.
If you browse around the site, there's a ton of Q&A buried in the comments for each article. That's part of how he does client interaction --- you have your initial and check-up one-on-one contacts, and then in between he likes questions posted so other people can also benefit from it (and it gives the site traffic).

Nice insights, I'm planning to consult one that my colleagues recommend from Instagram.
